Super-D Info
Course pre-riding for registered riders begins at 9:00am on August 30th. You must register for the event to pre-ride. Race runs begin at 11:00am. Men’s and Women’s categories.
Rider & Team Check In:
All teams must check in and sign liability waivers before racing. Check in opens at 1:00 pm in the Alps Chalet. Please allow enough time for this process. Race numbers will be assigned only after each rider has completed and signed all registration materials and liability forms. No exceptions! All riders from a team must be present.
Race Course:
The Salsa 24 will deliver a challenging course that keeps you on your toes and provides little time to relax. You can expect plenty of ups and downs...with a bare minimum of flat ground. A good attitude is the best offense! Next best is proper training! Make no mistake folks. Minnesota may not have many mountains but the vertical at Afton Alps will seem a whole lot bigger in person than it does on a topo map.
Race Timing Peak Timing Systems will be providing real-time chip timing services for the 2009 Salsa Two-Four. Web based terminals will be available in the Alps Chalet to check race results in real-time. Local WiFi intranet network will also be up and running. Bring your laptop and connect to SSID "Salsa24" and then load your favorite web browser to view real-time results on your own computer.
Race Headquarters
The Alps chalet serves as race headquarters including the start/finish line. Bathrooms, drinking water, coffee, electricity for recharging batteries and a hose will be provided.
Camping/Lodging
Camping is on a first come basis starting at 12:00 noon, Friday, August 28th. The parking area immediately in front of the Alps chalet will be used for event expo. The western most camping area will be designated a ‘Quiet Camping’ area. Our hope is to make this area family-friendly and also useful for people that really want to sleep. As the camping area moves east, the noise level will be expected to increase. Solo riders will have a dedicated area close to the Alps chalet, as many of them will be riding unsupported. Please note that none of the chalets are available for rider/team housing. The Afton Web site has a great listing of area lodging, www.aftonalps.com. Also note that Afton Alps allows camping only during the race.
Hampton Inn – Eagan is offering our racers a $70 per night stay Friday & Saturday, August 28-29th. This price includes breakfast. Mention Salsa Two-Four and book rooms by 8/14/09 to receive this special rate.
Prizes
The Salsa Two-Four is a race that hopefully is stuck in time. It harkens back to the era when racing was fun, racers were friendly, and people realized that this bike racing thing was a fun, competitive hobby, not a job. The race is about the training, smack talking, riding, suffering, fun, and camaraderie, and further smack talking...it isn’t about the prizes. There will be prizes of course though. The top three in each category receive an award and top 24-hour solo ‘TIME Machine’ champs receive a TIME shoe & pedal package valued at $500. Everyone who races has a chance to win some great prizes in the must-be-present-to-win prize drawing at the event conclusion.
Fun and Games
Don’t just come for the riding. Racers and spectators alike are welcome to take part in the spirit of the event as Salsa puts on a wide variety of free, fun games throughout the event. Stay tuned for more info on that!
