Helpful Hints
Train prior to the event. This is not a parking lot crit. This is difficult off-road riding for a long period of time. Don’t bum yourself out by not preparing adequately. Start getting proper mileage in now, and then taper leading up to race day.
What You Will Need Besides A Suitable Mountain Bike And A Helmet
• Sleeping/rest materials, shelter (tent, RV)
• Food to meet your needs. A cooler with plenty of ice is recommended. There is no ice supply at the event
• All necessary repair equipment for your team.
• A good first aid kit
• All the cycling clothing you own, including rain gear and tights. (3:00 am gets pretty chilly).
• A secondary light source between 8:00pm and 6:00am when on the race course.
• A power strip and extra batteries for your team.
What Your Bike Will Need
• A working front and rear light. No minimum wattage requirements, be as brave as you want. Race organizers will not have lights available and the area will not be lit.
• A visible race number at all times.
Eating and drinking are super important for this race. Bring a variety of food including energy bars, gel and especially a carbohydrate drink (like Hammer Perpetuem, etc.). Don’t forget a good easily digestible menu of real food too. Competitors will need to take in something constantly and energy bars get boring real fast.
Eat right after getting off the bike. This gives more time for digestion before your next time on the bike.
Consider two tents rather than one large one. During the night, riders are constantly coming and going, two tents allow fewer interruptions for those trying to sleep. One tent should be large enough to stand in.
Resting: When off the bike, never stand when you can sit and never sit when you can lie down.
Solo Riders: Don’t sit down or you might not get up. Don’t lie down or you definitely won’t get up!
Bring a tarp for shade.
This event is above all designed to be fun, don’t over extend yourself.
